Welcome to Ted's Garage

Think Arnold’s of Happy Days combined with cars like those driven by Harrison Ford and Suzanne Somers in American Graffiti.

You won’t find Fonz or John Milner there. But what you will find is a very cool retro fifties diner combined with a 1950s/1960s car dealership. It’s fun for the whole family with choices from a kid's menu to cocktails. The showroom at Ted’s is a near replica of what a new car dealership might have looked like in the 1950’s and 1960’s. Its inspiration, in fact, came from the showroom of Arthur Baum’s dealership in Carlock, Illinois. The color scheme of both the restaurant and showroom were chosen, as they were commonly used in decorating showrooms of the era.

The featured cars and bikes are from the prized collections of our neighbors, friends and customers. The display and featured classics are changed every 3 to 4 weeks.

The garage/automotive theme is carried throughout the menu. Appetizers include Spark Plugs (deep fried mushrooms), Dipsticks (bread sticks) and Piston Rings (onion rings). Check out the Fast Track Lunch menu with Daily Top Fuel Specials including a Hot Beef Sandwich, Homemade Chicken and Noodles and Wall-Eye.

Every day features include the Mexican Horseshoe, the Gas Gauge (French fried topped with melted cheese and Ted’s own famous chili) the Top Fuel which is smoked chicken salad with diced apples, celery, raising, shallots and Ted’s homemade dressing, served on a croissant.

The Phill-Ups section of the menu features hand dipped shakes and malts, Fountain Soda and Green River. If you’re into something more “high octane” you can choose from a domestic beer, hard liquor or several types of blender drinks. You can’t beat one of Ted’s famous baskets that include a generous portion of French fries, coleslaw and crisp wedge of dill pickle.

There’s the classic American Hot Rod (hamburger) The Convertible (BBQ pork), the Fan Blade (freshly breaded pork tenderloin, deep fried and served on a signature bun) or the Route 10 (grilled chicken, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, onion and fat free yogurt in a pita pocket).

If you’re more in the mood for comfort food, (and there is SOMETHING about Ted’s that makes you crave comfort food) try the Chicken Alfredo, the country Fried Steak, Baby Back ribs or Polish Sausage. Ted’s also features the finest beef hand cut and select especially for their customers, then charbroiled to perfection. Steak cuts include the ribeye, filet and sirloin. And the menu just keeps going and going and going. There is the Classic Thunderbird Chicken Breast, Stingray Shrimp, The Barracuda” (also known as Norwegian salmon) Pork chops, the menu is almost as long as Route 66.

And you’ll be sure to not fill up too much, as you can cross the “Finish Line” with desserts that include pie of the day, homemade bread pudding or a classic Root Beer Float.

Warning: One visit to Ted’s and you will be inclined to return often to spend your evenings with the friendly folks and regulars and share stories that are inspired by the décor, memorabilia and personalities scattered all around. Please don’t be shy - everyone there likes a good old tale. Enjoy your surroundings and take yourself back to a time when you can recall your favorite hometown “garage”. Most of all, enjoy your meal selection, view the cars in the showroom, and make yourself at home.
