“Food is an important part of a balanced diet.” So says Fran Lebowitz. But did you really need a high school dropout from New York to tell you that? If you are searching for that elusive balanced diet in Downtown Bloomington, then search no farther than Michael’s Restaurant, dominating the 100 block of W. Washington St.

Whatever you are in the mood for, chances are that you can find it on the menu at Michael’s. Steak-check! BBQ ribs—check! Chicken Saltimbocca—check! (yeah, like you didn’t know that was chicken layered with prosciutto topped with mozzarella cheese in white wine marinara sauce served over spaghetti.)

Got your mouth watering yet? That’s only one page of the menu. Michael’s features an all-encompassing conglomeration of food that bedazzles the customer with its meticulous preparation and worldly flair. If food could talk it would say “eat me.” But you’ve probably heard that before. But what you may NOT have heard before is the eclectic live jazz featured every Friday night. Order a glass of wine from their cavernous collection. Hail your waiter for some appetizers to nosh on. Then lean back and think “this is the good life.” Because it is.

But man cannot live by dinner alone. And thus God created lunch. And it was good. Actually, it’s great at Michael’s. Because Michael’s is home to one of the most extensive lunch buffets that DOESN’T rely heavily on egg rolls or fried rice.. Michael’s offer a bountiful lunch buffet that features a salad bar, homemade desserts, fresh fruit, soup, fish, shrimp, chicken, steak and lots o’ pasta.

And the only thing better than a lunch buffet is that Brangelina of Sundays, the much-loved, but somewhat elusive–to-find-in-the-Twin-Cities, brunch. Is it breakfast? Is it lunch? Is it a bird? A plane? It’s everything that can cure that Saturday night hangover and make for a great place to take the in-laws or the out-of-towners. We’ve got two words for you—Omelette Bar. And here are two more – Waffle Station. So four isn’t good enough for you. How about roast beef? How about fresh fruit? How about bacon and sausage and eggs, oh my! How about unbuckling that top button on the pants so you can go back for more?

Because there will be no waffle left behind. .
