Name that sport? One which can be played from the earliest of ages to late in life. A great social experience with the chance and opportunity to play competitively. Played in an outdoor environment providing physical exercise in the natural countryside. One sport comes to mind, one that no matter what ability, excitement and fun are a guarantee. That sport is …………Golf!!

About 20 miles east of Bloomington, in the city of Shade and Water (also known as Saybrook) is a hidden gem of a golf course featuring a challenging, tree-lined layout with two sets of tees, extending the 9-hole course to 18 holes. The practice facilities include an oversized putting green with a side bunker and a full length driving range.

Indian Springs Golf Club is a semi-private, 9 hole golf course, which first opened for play in 1971. As one golfer suggests, “Take 2 turns around this course, and you will further appreciate the layout. Driving over the water on the 9th is a fun hole--play it with your kids. Enjoy the well equipped clubhouse, too.”

Designed by the legendary E. Lawrence Packard, who has handled more than 250 golf projects ranging from the redesign of a few holes to the design of four courses for Innisbrook Golf Resort in Palm Harbor, Florida. Two of Innisbrook's courses have been in Golf Digest's 100 best in the country, as well as the best in Florida. Packard courses are designed so that both men and women will have very pleasant golfing. Easy pars but difficult birdies! Indian Springs Golf Course plays to a 9-hole, par-36 and maximum 9-hole distance of 3,180 yards. The course rating is 71.8 with a 119 slope rating.

Overlooking the ninth green, the clubhouse includes a snack bar with a large banquet facility on the second floor. Family, junior, and individual memberships are available to all for an annual fee. Outings, playdays, and banquets are welcome, but must be scheduled in advance.

If you’re tired of playing the same old courses, stretch your horizons and take the short drive to Saybrook. You and your golf clubs will be glad you did.
